About the House
Built in 1939, this house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Willo Historic District. This Spanish Colonial Revival style home was originally constructed as a two-bedroom, one-bath house. The original portion of the house now has central air conditioning, gas heat, kitchen with a gas stove, updated electrical, living room with fireplace, separate dining room with French doors opening to back patio, a and full bathroom with historic-style fixtures. The house retains its historic character, with many original features still in place.
Willo is the ideal neighborhood for the cosmopolitan tenant looking for a charming house and a diverse, multicultural, urban lifestyle found virtually nowhere else in the Valley. The Willo District is a safe, friendly, urban neighborhood with an exceptionally welcoming community feel.
The front bedroom has two small closets, wall-to-wall carpet, and is adjacent to the front bath. The remainder of the house has ceramic tile floors, except for the original second bedroom, which has hardwood floors, and now serves best as a den. Passing through the den leads to the master suite addition.
The addition to the back of the house was renovated and expanded in 2008 to serve as a master suite featuring a large bathroom, a small walk-in closet, a second closet, and a bonus room, which makes an excellent nursery or office. The addition has its own central AC unit. The master bath has a large linen closet, adult-height sink and polished stone counter top, and premium plumbing fixtures. There are exterior doors in the master bath and bedroom for convenient access to the secluded backyard spa.
Situated at the southwest corner of Third Avenue and Wilshire Drive, the house is near the center of the Willo District, about half-way between Thomas and McDowell roads. There is a Metro Light Rail stop about three blocks from the house, at Central Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, providing quick access to Sky Harbor Airport, and downtown Tempe, among other places.
The nicely manicured front yard provides excellent curb appeal. The private back yard is completely fenced and has one gate opening to the front and one opening to the paved parking space south of the garage.
The detached, one car garage has a washer and dryer installed. The house has a new, efficient natural gas water heater. There is a separate, electric water heater in the garage for the washing machine. The dryer is electric.
